The results are as follows:
- Gold - All Other Varietals Category: 919 Reserve Collection 2015 Touriga Nacional
- Silver - Dry Sherry Style Category: 919 NV Pale Dry Apera
- Individual Category: Riverland Winery of the Year

919 Wines has been awarded a gold medal at the 2017 Melbourne International Wine Competition, taking out the all other red varietals category with its 919 Reserve Collection 2015 Touriga Nacional. Typically grown in Portugal, this alternative grape variety was showcased to a trade only judging panel consisting of top trade buyers from distributors, top retail stores and sommeliers from across Australia.
919 Wines was also awarded a silver medal for its Non-Vintage Pale Dry Apera, taking out the Dry Sherry Style category submission. 919 Wines was also awarded “Riverland Winery of the Year”.
In its fourth year running, the competition saw more than 1,100 submissions from 10+ countries around the world.
“The Riverland continues to pave the way for growing alternative wine varieties, and we are honoured that our wine is able to be showcased in a way that promotes the region” Mr Eric Semmler of 919 Wines said about the awards. “Our Touriga Nacional is a very exciting Portuguese variety which shows its best when grown in hot climate”.
“Our Pale Dry Apera is a true sherry style made through a traditional solera system, which once again shows the suitability of the Riverland for wine production with the bottling of these varieties” Mr Semmler said.
919 Wines was established in 2004, located in the Riverland of South Australia and produces a range of wines from Mediterranean grape varieties Petit Manseng, Tempranillo, award-winning fortifieds and the cult classic Durif.
919 Wines has previously been recognised for its production of high quality wine, having been awarded in 2011 The Adelaide Review Hot 100 Wine of the Year, 2013 Winestate Australian Winemaker of the Year, and the BrandSA 2014 Regional Wine Award.
